Advantages and disadvantages of wind energy
- It is a renewable source of energy.
- It is non –polluting hence does not give rise to greenhouse gas or solid wastes.
- It has low running cost.
- It is useful to supply electric power in remote areas.
- It can be used to obtain mechanical energy for grinding and pumping water.
- It has low operating and maintenance cost.
Disadvantages of wind energy
- It varies with geographical conditions.
- It is fluctuating in nature and natural energy storage device is required.
- It is noisy in operation and affects the route of migratory birds.
- Wind farms require large vacant land free from forest to harness wind energy for power generation.
- The direction of the wind is not constant.
